Teaching Children to Start Their Day with God: A Parent’s Guide

by Dr Theodora Banigo Ekwevugbe

In this case, starting their days always with God first.

Why: It’s the first step in cultivating a culture of honour for God in the home. Let them start their days with God first. Let them gradually learn to remember that God comes first in the day – the moment we wake up, we commune with him first, before going on into our day.

How-to:

How to start teaching kids about God?
  • They can read a devotional while waiting for breakfast, to ensure they’re fully awake by this time. Or if they serve themselves breakfast, let them learn to speak with God before they go make their breakfasts. God first
  • They can listen to their Audio Bible before breakfast
  • They can read a short passage from the Bible, and make sure to ask them for what they’ve learnt so that they are mindful when reading or listening. We don’t want to just go through the motions, we want to create an opportunity for God to speak to them before their day – i.e their daily bread.
  • They can pray also

We must emphasise listening for the voice of God.

God first.

It’ll gradually etch in their hearts the honour for God in your home.

Thanks.

Gods grace as we co-parent with Christ.
