Dear Parent’s
Good day! I hope your week has been going well so far.
Tip for today: Teaching Children to Meditate on God as they Fellowship with Him.
In our world today, it has become all too common for people to focus on others while praying, as if they were speaking to an audience rather than truly communing with God. The object of our focus directs our energy, our heart, and our attention. It is this heart’s attention—fully focused on God—that helps us connect with Him, that brings Him pleasure, and that He delights in.
So how can we help our children develop the habit, from a young age, of directing all their focus toward God while praying?
1. Encourage them to visualize God.
Teach them to imagine Christ or to picture God as a loving Father—perhaps seated on a throne or even sitting beside them at their bedside with His hand upon them as they lie down to sleep. Let them learn to pray to this Father, truly aiming to communicate with Him.
2. Teach them that God is truly listening.
Help them understand that God is present in that very moment, hearing their words as they speak. Show them that the key to communicating with Him is to retreat into their minds, shutting the door to distractions, and speaking to Him one-on-one. Let them know that when they focus solely on Him, they are locking themselves in with God, and He hears them.
3. Encourage them to listen for God’s response.
We must teach them dissatisfaction with going on with their days nonchalantly, when they haven’t heard God.
A child of God must hear the word of God, it is this word, that brings life.
As they grow, let them begin to practice waiting on God—learning to be still and expectant. Even if He does not speak back immediately, encourage them to look out for the ways He might respond throughout their day.
May we guide our children to develop true fellowship with God, helping them build a lifelong habit of seeking Him with their whole hearts.
