The Cycles of Life & Need for Continuous Improvement

by Dr Theodora Banigo Ekwevugbe

One thing I realized is that life moves in cycles. Patterns naturally repeat themselves. Cycles of the year, cycles of the seasons, cycles of shorter time, even cycles in our behaviors. All of life runs in cycles. And you really can’t beat the schedule of these cycles, because a greater force is rhythmically conducting the tempo of this world.

Your best hope of growth is not to escape the cycle but to ascend from one level to a higher level, so that when the cycle comes around again, you’re no longer operating on the same frequency you were before. You’re not repeating the same patterns or making the same choices you made the last time. Instead, in the distance between the previous cycle and this one, you’ve gained character, you’ve built capacity, and you’ve developed new internal “DNA” that allows you to make better decisions.

Our work in life is simply this: to engage with our experiences in a way that makes us reflect, learn the lessons, update ourselves, and build new internal DNA. Because the quality of a person is the quality of their decisions, the quality of their thinking, their perceptions, their interpretations, and the quality of their perspective. That’s the mental frequency they operate on.

People operate at different frequencies, and we naturally recognize and gravitate toward others on the same level. But you’re not supposed to stay on one frequency forever. You’re meant to keep elevating.

What keeps people stuck is emotional tethering — to the environments they grew up in, the behaviors they’ve always known, the familiar processes they refuse to release. There’s fear of the unknown, a reluctance to step into the unfamiliar world of growth. And because of that, when the cycle returns, they respond the same way, and their lives stay on the same strata.

But an excellent human, a maturing adult, is one who is constantly updating themselves — in their internal DNA, their quality of mind, quality of perception, quality of thought, quality of response, and therefore quality of results. So the next time the cycle of events comes back around, they respond differently. Better. Wiser. More fruitfully.

Your results today, even under the same conditions, will not be the same as before because you reflected. You learned. You saw what you did last time and the outcomes it produced. Wisdom and truth came and taught you a better way. And because you held on to that truth, you can now put it into practice.

That, my friend, is 100%. That is growth. That is preparedness.

And by God’s grace, when Christ comes, you will be ready.
