Do not despise any opportunity for Character formation

by Dr Theodora Banigo Ekwevugbe

Do not ignore or despise any experience in your life as long as you are walking in divine direction and doing your best with what your hands find to do.

Many experiences will not seem relevant to the final picture you see for your life. In the moment, it is almost impossible to connect the dots between what an experience is building in you now and how it will matter later. But with time, those dots always connect.

Every experience contributes to excellence. I can say with certainty that the experiences I had as a young adult, in my teens, university years, early working life, and early leadership all came together to bring me to where I am now. Every single skill I picked up along the way has found its place. Together, they produce the level of excellence one is able to demonstrate.

Nothing is wasted.

Learning how to do your makeup or hair

Learning personal hygiene and timekeeping

Being corrected or disciplined by leaders

Being placed in strict systems to learn control

Learning punctuality

Learning how to cook

Learning how to conserve money through lack

Learning to keep your environment tidy

Learning how to lead people

Building relational and emotional intelligence

Learning how to hear from God and obey Him

Learning obedience through the consequences of disobedience

Every single thing works together.

All of it prepares you for your destiny. Joseph knew the end picture early. God showed him the final destination, but the journey in between was filled with struggle. That journey was necessary. It shaped the man who could carry the dream.

In the same way, whatever lies between your here and your there is forming the person you need to become.

So do not despise where you are.

Set your mind to learn everything you can from your current season.

Take the lessons seriously.

You never know how much you will need them later.
