Dear parents,
Here are some things God shared with me.
Recently, I was reading John 17, the high priestly prayer of Jesus, and this struck me.
Jesus, praying to His Father in Heaven, said:
“During my time here, I protected them by the power of the name you gave me… Now I am departing from the world… protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are.” (John 17:12, 11b NLT)
His name was a covering. The name God gave Him. And it’s that same name we still carry and still call upon today.
In Colossians 1, Scripture says:
“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God… He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together… He is first in everything. For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself.”(Colossians 1:15–20, selections, NLT)
And in Philippians 2, it declares:
“Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9–11, NLT)
This is the position Jesus now occupies—in the heavens and in all the earth. And His name carries weight, has gravity. It’s a wide, powerful umbrella that covers those who dare to believe and call upon Him.
So as I’m learning, I want to encourage you too, let’s cover the children.
The words of a mother, as I’ve learnt, carries weight in the realm of the Spirit. It gives right to cover. It demands.
Our voices must not be silent.
Let us cover our children.
Let us use the umbrella of the name of Jesus.
And I’ll take it even further:
Let us begin to pray the prayer of agreement—with our children.
Is there a character trait we want to see shaped in them? Or one we’re battling to see changed?
A spiritual gift or blessing we want to call down into their lives?
The Bible says:
“I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you.”(Matthew 18:19 NLT)
That two can literally be you and the child.
Let’s engage the principle of agreement, using our children as the second or third voice. Their voices count in this principle.
God bless us.
