Teach the Children they’re no Longer Under the Law

by Dr Theodora Banigo Ekwevugbe

Hello parents, good evening.

God laid it on my heart that we need to teach our children the difference between grace and being under the law. Many children come under condemnation because of the voice of the enemy. When they do wrong or when they sin, they feel unworthy and separated from God.

But we are no longer under the law of sin and death.

Jesus came and died for us to make a difference, because He knew we would never be able to earn access to God simply by our own will or by our ability not to sin.

So Jesus Christ came and paid the price for us—overcoming sin in the flesh and settling the penalty for all our sins: past, present, and future.

By so doing, He served the sentence on our behalf and made a way for free access between us and the throne.

We no longer need to be restricted or restrained by our deeds or our own abilities.

Now we have free access—by the payment of Christ—and God sees Jesus Christ when He looks at us.

So we need to teach our children about grace, and we need to understand it ourselves, so that we’re not parenting under the law of condemnation. We must free our children from the law of sin and death, and raise people who feel free to come into the presence of God—not separated by a guilty conscience, not separated by sin-consciousness, not separated by condemnation.

Whenever a guilty conscience, because of awareness of sin, threatens to come between their free access to God, they must understand this:

All it calls for, and all that is required, is as simple as open confession of what they have done wrong—honestly and directly to God.

They must know and understand that He will forgive them freely and easily, – infact, their forgiveness was already bought by the punishment of Jesus on the cross – the price has already been fully paid in Jesus Christ.

Their repentance is not to appease an angry God—it is for the purification of their own consciences, so they can approach God with boldness and clarity, not shame. Let them know: _God is not holding their sin against them, because He already carried out that wrath on Jesus Christ._ The price has been paid in full, so *they cannot—and do not need to—pay it again*.

When a guilty conscience rises, they only need to:

Helping Kids Understand God’s Grace Over the Law

• Acknowledge their sin in prayer

• Commit their will to not repeat it—with the help of the Holy Spirit

• Know and trust that the Holy Spirit will empower them to live free from sin

But more importantly, let’s teach our children—and ourselves—to *move beyond sin-consciousness into Christ-consciousness.

God knows that we may fall into sin – whether it be heart sin, or actions.

He wants to to pick ourselves up quickly, dust off the sand and keep running- eyes on the cross.

If you take responsibility for earning your righteousness by your own efforts and right-doing, then the same, – the weight of your sins will weigh you down, and you’ll live in a constant awareness of not being good enough- and this is what the devil wants, – because a mind weighed down by sin consciousness cannot fully run and achieve as God has called us to do. ** We must raise them to be aware not only of the wrongs they do, but of the new nature they now carry in Christ, the love God has for them, the identity He has given them, and the purpose and power He has deposited within them.

Our energy goes where our focus is. We become what we behold.

If we focus on sin, we become weighed down. If we focus on Christ, we rise in identity, freedom, and purpose.

Let us shift—from sin-consciousness to Christ-consciousness.

May God open our eyes to see.

May He help us grow in this revelation, even as I am growing. I am trying to pay closer attention now, since He has drawn my heart to this. I know I must first build up myself to be able to give accurate, Spirit-led truth to my children.

I encourage us all to do the same.

God bless and crown our efforts.
